The Tale of a Dog Who Really Wanted to Go to Daycare

Once upon a time there lived a boy named Murfee who loved visiting Dog Star Ranch so much so that he plotted a way to get himself to the Ranch for Daycare without his Mom knowing.

It was a gorgeous Friday morning and Murfee's Mom was leaving to go to work at Dog Star, as she passed Murfee and his "brother" Gilligan in the garage, she said goodbye to both of them and got in her car to leave. As she was pulling away, she remembered that she had forgotten something in the house, rushing, she pulled back up to the house, opened her door and ran into the house to grab her forgotten item. When she came back through the garage, only Gilligan was there, assuming Murfee had ventured outside to the fenced in area, she said goodbye just to Gilligan and got back into her car and proceeded on her way to work. As she was driving away from the house, in her rear view mirror, up popped Murfee's head, his expression saying "Hi, Mom! I'm coming to work with you!" His Mom: shocked, surprised, and impressed, laughed at her smart boy for devising such an amazing escape agreed that "Okay, since you worked so hard at sneaking into the car, you are coming to Dog Star with me!"

And that is the tale of a dog who really wanted to go to Daycare!

"I Don't Want To Miss A Thing" (Aerosmith)

**Shane serenading Molly**

I could stay awake just to hear you breathing
Watch you smile while you are sleeping
While you're far away and dreaming
I could spend my life in this sweet surrender
I could stay lost in this moment forever
Every moment spent with you is a moment I treasure

Don't wanna close my eyes
I don't wanna fall asleep
'Cause I'd miss you, baby
And I don't wanna miss a thing

Chip: Umm...guys, I'm right here...

The Four Stages of the Weekend:

Friday: You watch the clock, each minute passing agonizingly slow, just waiting for the weekend to start. When your work time is up, you bounce as quickly as your legs can move and jump into your fun weekend plans.

Saturday: You ain't got no worries. What is work? Who cares! Responsibilities? Ain't got none until Sunday! Saturday is all about you time, to-do lists, and relaxing. You hope the weather is nice so you can get out and play in the sun!

Sunday: You procrastinate until the last minute on projects that are due Monday. You spend Sunday relaxing, finishing up to-do lists, relaxing some more, napping, avoiding responsibilities until you realize it is getting late and Oh, wait...it is Monday tomorrow, so you rush to finish those projects you started before you head off to bed.

Monday: Coffee. Coffee. Coffee. You drink lots and lots and lots of coffee. You can't seem to find a matching pair of socks, you burn your toast, spill your juice, where is the dog's leash? You feel like you are rushing. More coffee. You are buzzing from all the coffee. All you want to do is nap, but you have responsibilities to take care of. And all you can think is...is it the weekend yet?

"I had this rare privilege of being able to pursue in my adult life, what had been my childhood dream." - Andrew Wiles

A couple days ago was the two year anniversary of my college graduation. Family members, friends, and various people would ask me what I was going to do after I graduated or they would ask me what I intended to do with my degree (English: Creative Writing), but I had not the slightest idea!

I spent the days leading up to my graduation and my days after graduation applying ferociously to every job that pertained to my degree, didn't pertain to my degree, sounded interesting...you name it, I applied for it. But it was in my search for ANY job, any job at all, that I stumbled upon Dog Star Ranch. What is Dog Star Ranch? I thought to myself, I'd never heard of it, so I visited their website, checked them out, and wondered how I never knew this place existed!?

I thought to myself...I want to work with dogs! That sounds like fun! So I sent in my resume and crossed my fingers, crossed my fingers that someone, anyone would want to interview me, or better yet, hire me! I did not hear back from 90% of the jobs that I applied to, and I was okay with that because the one job that I really wanted to hear back from called me! You guessed it! Dog Star Ranch reached out to me and asked if I was interested in coming in for an interview. It was hands-down the best interview I've ever had for a job, probably because I was petting a dog the entire time, which really helped calm my nerves.

But to end this story short, come the end of May I will have been working at Dog Star Ranch for two years! And when people ask me what I do, I joyfully tell them that I work at Dog Star Ranch where I get to care for the big and small, the short and tall, the soft and fluffy furry four-legged fur-friends that come to Dog Star Ranch!

And when they ask me what I've done with my degree, well, you're reading it! I get to write creative stories about all my fur-friends! I get to do something that I absolutely love. My senior high school quote was "There are many things in life that will catch your eye, but only a few will catch your heart...pursue those." Dog Star Ranch not only caught my eye, but it also caught my heart.

I feel very lucky to have found Dog Star Ranch, much like how many of you feel very lucky to have found Dog Star Ranch for your fur-babies! I appreciate there being such a unique and one-of-a-kind of a place, not only for your fur-babies/our fur-friends, but for humans as well.

"Scratch a dog and you will find a permanent job." - Franklin P. Jones

Remy: My friend Shakespeare once said "All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players: they have their exits and their entrances; and one man in his time plays many parts, his acts being seven ages." Whatever that means. But since I've got your attention I have repaired a monologue for my audition...
Star Buddy: What audition?
*Remy clears throat*
Remy: To be, or not to be--that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles
And by opposing end them. To die, to sleep--
No more--and by a sleep to say we end...
Star Buddy: Hamlet?
Remy: Yes, Hamlet, you just interrupted Hamlet.
Star Buddy: I'm just not in the mood for Hamlet...
Remy: So what about my audition? Do I still get the part?
Star Buddy: What part?
Remy: Do you want me to do a different monologue? I have many memorized!
Star Buddy: No, no, no, that is quite alright!
Remy: But...the world is my stage! I must perform!
Star Buddy: Just go play, silly!
Remy: But I am an ACT-TOR!
Star Buddy: Then I shall write you a part!
Remy: Write a part! Especially for me! How splendid!
Star Buddy: You will play an adorable young pup, an explorer!
Remy: Ohh! An explorer! I like it!
Star Buddy: Yes, a young explorer out on a GREAT adventure!
Remy: What is my adventure?!
Star Buddy: They call it...a Star Buddy Walk, like hiking the Appalachian Trail!
Remy: That does sound adventurous!
Star Buddy: So you know what to do?
Remy: Be adventurous?!
Star Buddy: Kinda like improv!
Remy: I've never done improv before!
Star Buddy: I believe in you!
Remy: Here I go!
Star Buddy: Just remember: "All the world's a stage!"

Let's play Who Got Into The Cookie Jar?

Or...in this case Who Played In The Mud Puddle?

Rusty, did you play in the mud puddle?
Rusty: Mud is gross!
Rusty, did you play in the mud puddle?
Rusty: I don't know how mud got on my face!
So you played in the mud puddle.
Rusty: I thought I saw a ball in the puddle and I was only trying to save the its life!

Now...

Greysen, did you play in the mud puddle?
Greysen: OH HECK YEAH I DID! I DUG IN IT, ROLLED IN IT, ROMPED IN IT, LAID IN IT! I TURNED MYSELF BROWN! I AIN'T GONNA DENY IT! I HAD FUUUUUUN!

And then we went to the pond so she could clean herself off :)

DayStar of the Month for April 2016 ~ Bear Lilly

Our DayStar of the Month for April 2016 is a hero among dragons, a gentleman; he is adventurous and brave in the face of danger. He has battled evil and rescued damsels in distress.

Like a spring, he can launch himself into the air reaching great heights. And much like a Great White Shark rocketing out of the water and clutching a Seal in its jaws, our DayStar of the Month, with excellent precision and aim, rockets himself into the air and catches his tennis ball (or dragon) in his mouth. With his tail wagging and a skip in his step, he happily brings you (the Star Buddy) the ball or dragon back only to want you to throw the toy of his choice back up into the air so that he can run to retrieve it.

Our DayStar of the Month for April 2016 is of course BEAR LILLY! This handsome little bit of this, little bit of that Lab/Shepherd/Rottweiler mix is always full of energy, always super excited when his Mom brings him to Daycare, and he LOVES to play fetch. Bear also knows how to play soccer, kicking the tennis ball towards his Star Buddy, and he also knows how to dribble his tennis ball, bouncing it with his paw back up to his open mouth. It is really quite impressive!

Bear has been coming to the Ranch for Daycare for little over a year now, and he fell instantly in love! He fell quickly in love with all of his Star Buddies, the parks, the pond, and that his Star Buddies loved playing fetch just as much as he did!

Bear is a smart, well-mannered (if he really wants to be) young man! We love having him as a fur-friend here at the Ranch!

Congratulations, Bear, on being nominated as DayStar of the Month for April 2016! We love you!
