Cue: “Hungry Eyes” by Eric Carmen
Now I’ve got you in my sights
With these hungry eyes
Now did I take you by surprise
I need you to see
This love was meant to be

I got hungry eyes
~I wish someone would look at me the way Belle looks at the tennis ball.~

Cue "Roar" by Katy Perry

You held me down, but I got up (HEY!)
Already brushing off the dust
You hear my voice, you hear that sound
Like thunder gonna shake the ground
You held me down, but I got up (HEY!)
Get ready 'cause I've had enough
I see it all, I see it now

I got the eye of the tiger, a fighter, dancing through the fire
'Cause I am a champion and you're gonna hear me roar
Louder, louder than a lion
'Cause I am a champion and you're gonna hear me roar
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
You're gonna hear me roar

Ro-oar, ro-oar, ro-oar, ro-oar, ro-oar

According to our records it is ELSA'S BIRTHDAY!

And to think that this quiet, sweet girl tried sneaking by without us celebrating her day!
Nice try, sneaky girl!

Elsa has been coming to Dog Star Ranch since September of 2012! We've had the pleasure of watching Elsa blossom and grow into the beautiful, intelligent, young lady that she is today!

Seeing Double

Do you feel like you are seeing double when you look at Beast and Shadow? Beast is black. So is Shadow. Both have brown eyes, pink tongues, and large pointy ears. Can you guess which one is which? There is a secret to telling the difference, but that is for me to know and you to find out!

So make your guess! See if you can guess which one is which! Is Beast on the left...or the right?! Or is it Shadow on the right? Or maybe it's all one big trick and it's the same dog in both pictures!

Make your guess and find out!

The Hopey Pokey ("The Hokey Pokey")

You put your front paws in,
You put your front paws out,
You put your front paws in,
And you shake it all about,

You do the Hopey pokey
and you run yourself around
That's what it's all about.

When this sweet-faced girl first walked through Dog Star Ranch's doors in July of 2015, she was just over three months old. With her sweet little face and her adorable puppy breath, our Staff immediately fell in love with her. She came in for her temperament test with her big sister, Minnie. And what could be more adorable than fur-sisters who looked almost identical! Belle was nervous at first, after all it was a big new world for her full of all sorts of smells and sounds, but she quickly warmed up once she realized how much fun Dog Star was!

Big sister Minnie and Belle started coming for Daycare. We were blessed with the opportunity to watch Belle grow into the young lady that she is today. And boy, does she look more and more like her big sister every day! Belle absolutely ADORES her big sister, these two are inseparable! Not only are their looks nearly identical, but how they move, it is as if Belle mirrors Minnie's every move.

It is hilarious watching Belle play fetch with her sister. There is nothing that Minnie and Belle love more than playing fetch! Although Belle doesn't necessarily "play" fetch. She stands behind Minnie in a mirrored ready position, and as soon as Minnie bolts for the ball, Belle is not far behind, but Minnie always gets the ball. When Belle is playing fetch with her sister, she always lets Minnie get the ball. Even when Belle gets to the ball first, she always lets Minnie retrieve it. Both Minnie and Belle are lightning fast! And they could run and play fetch for hours and hours and hours! Like the Energizer Bunny, they just keep going, and going, and going!

Miss Belle, you are a very intelligent young lady! You are adorable and a joy to play with! We love having you as a fur-friend at the Ranch! We wish you the BIGGEST happy FIRST birthday ever!

Happy 1st birthday, Belle!

Daisy has always been a rambunctious young lady! Turning NINE certainly hasn't slowed her down! She is still just as springy as before! As a young lady she wanted to be best fur-friends with everyone! So it wasn't surprising to find her hopping from yard to yard to play with her different groups of fur-friends!

And although Daisy would like you to believe that she is a perfect angel (which she totally is!), but she was sometimes a wee bit of a troublemaker...Daisy? A troublemaker?! NEVER! But, yes, sometimes Daisy would eat Moms People Magazine, but Daisy's excuse for why she did it is because she just really wanted to digest what she was reading!

But really Daisy is a sweetheart! She is a very smart girl and it was really easy for Dad to train her! Although her Dad did say that she is a little dramatic when it comes to playing dead, but she can't help it! It has always been her dream to be an actress! So any chance that she gets to practice, she will! So when she is being overly dramatic when playing dead, she is just trying to make is super believable!

Daisy LOVES LOVES LOVES working with her Dad! She loves coming to work with him, playing in Daycare, helping Dad with temperament tests, and lounging around on the couches!

Another thing that Daisy LOVES to do is go swimming at the pond, but what she doesn't love is when her baby sister sharks her! And by that, we mean when her little sister, Bella, swims circles around Daisy while Daisy is trying to swim. Little sisters, gotta love them!

Daisy's (somewhat unfortunate) nickname that Dad has for her is Booger Head. Why? Well, because when Daisy was a puppy she had an eye booger on her head, and the name just stuck! But we also like to call Daisy Daisy-Roo for all the bouncing that she does :)

Happy birthday, Daisy! We hope you enjoyed being sung to and spoiled ALL day! We love you!

"I'll write the blog for you. What should I write about?" - Madeleine

"Coming up with an idea is hard work. What should I write about? Help me!" - Madeleine
Write about how adventurous you are! Mom says that you like to go on adventures.
"Yeah, that is a good idea! And very true! I love to go on adventures! Sometimes I don't even tell Mom where I'm going, I just come back all dirty and make her guess where I've been!" - Madeleine

Madeleine, what are you writing about? Maddie? Madeleine...oh, you are asleep. It looks like you tuckered yourself out today playing with all your fur-friends, huh? Alright, well, I will let you sleep.

Specialty Class

April’s Specialty Class will be covering two of the most requested topics;
Leash Reactions and Recall with Distractions.

Saturday, April 16th, 2016 @ 10:00 am

* Each session will be an hour in length and cost $20.00 per session (Sirius Star Members save 10%).  These will be great options for those who need to fine tune some issues, structured training dogs to work alongside the trainer, or those just looking for somethin’ fun to work on with their pup.
* Come dressed for the season.  We love to be outdoors, but if we are not able to then the classes will be held in the training arena (protected from the elements, but not heated).
* To hold the Specialty Classes we would need to have a minimum of 3 dogs reserved by the night before at 5:00 pm.

* Do you have suggestions that you would like to see in the upcoming Specialty Class session?  Send them over to for consideration.  Topics and dates will be posted the month prior for planning purposes.

The Many Faces of Rori

If you were to look at this handsome face today, happy, ears flopping in the wind as he runs free and fast across the Star Buddy Park, you might not know that his life wasn't always this happy and carefree.

Rori first came to Dog Star Ranch when he was dropped off early in the morning, abandoned over the fence to our Small Dog Park. Neglected, he was all alone and afraid. It took us two days to catch him. Rori was unsure as to whether or not he could trust us, and we so desperately wanted him to so that we could help him.

Once rescued from the Small Dog Park, Rori was placed in the care of Pound Buddies where we hoped that he would find his furever home, which he did! In the loving care of the Johnson's (Maggie and Gandalf's Mom and Dad), Rori found out what it was like to be truly loved and cared for by someone. He had a family that wanted him, loved him, and cared for him.

But Rori wasn't out of the woods yet. He had his furever home, but it was also discovered that he had heartworm disease. Just when Rori thought that he was catching a break, he found himself facing yet another obstacle. But Rori was with a supportive family that was not going to give up on him, they were going to be there for him and do whatever it took for him to get healthy again. Rori started the rigorous heartworm treatment process. Slowly but surely he started to get healthy again. He was kept low-key while he recuperated, which with his energy level, it was hard to do, but he remained patient until he was completely healed.

This past month Rori had a lot to celebrate!!
1. He celebrated his ADOPTION DAY on March 26! He has been with his furever family for three years now...and many more to come!!
2. He celebrated his "birthday" on March 29! It is hard to say when Rori's actual birthday is, but the best part about being adopted is that he gets to choose his own birthday! So happy (slightly belated) birthday, Rori! He is now (according to our records) SIX years old!
3. On March 25, he celebrated being heartworm free for TWO years now! We are so happy that you are HEALTHY and HAPPY, Rori :)
4. And finally, Rori celebrated his Dog Star Anniversary on March 29! He has been coming to Dog Star Ranch for THREE years now! He enjoys working with his Trainer (he really enjoys learning and practicing his manners) and playing with his Star Buddies (going for walks outside and swimming at the pond in the summertime).

Rori's life story may not have started out so great, but thanks to his furever family, Rori was given a second chance to be loved the way he deserves and to be happy!

Rori would like to thank his Humans for loving him unconditionally, for caring for him, and for helping make him the HAPPY dog that he is today!

"Thanks Mom and Dad! I love you!!" - Rori

Today is a BIG DAY! Boo turns a BIG NUMBER!

Boo was just a mere 6 months old when he first pitter-pattered his puppy paws through Dog Star Ranch’s door. We are so happy that we’ve had the pleasure to watch Boo grow from a young man to a handsome gentleman. It is hard to believe that today he turned TEN!

Remember when you became a big brother, Boo? You were two years old, and you weren’t too sure about having a little brother, but you were such a good big fur-brother and you took pride in being the best big fur-brother you could possibly be! When you realized how fun a little fur-brother could be, Barkley became your fur-ever best fur-friend. You two are inseparable!

You were an original bus boy, one of the first! You loved riding the bus with Pat, always sitting with your head next to him, him petting you all the way home.

You fell in love with the Ranch and the Ranch Staff just as quickly as we fell in love with you. You’ve made so many fur-friends along the way.

It is hard to believe that you are ten years old already, especially since you refuse to believe that you are getting older! You will forever be a puppy at heart!

Boo-Bear, we wish you the HAPPIEST of birthdays! You deserve a day filled with lots of treats, hugs, scratches, and cuddles!

DayStar of the Month for March 2016 ~ Bowie O’Donnell

With his chiseled body, muscular strength, and charming smile, our DayStar of the Month is the Hercules of Dog Star Ranch. He is well-mannered, educated, and playful. Just last summer he was finally brave enough to venture into the pond and learn to swim. Who is our unanimously voted handsome DayStar of the Month?

Bowie O’Donnell!

It isn’t every day that you meet a Rhodesian Ridgeback as handsome as Bowie. These “lion hunters” are truly one-of-a-kind with their unique ridge of hair running along their backs in the opposite direction from the rest of the coat. So not only does Bowie have this distinguishing feature, he also has a one-of-a-kind personality as well!

We first met Bowie, a big-pawed floppy-eared adorable puppy tagging along behind his big sister Stella (rest her soul) for his first time boarding. His big sister showed him the ropes of the Ranch, taught him the in’s and out’s…tolerated his puppy play. As Bowie got old he was able to make his own fur-friends. He became pals with Hank the Dane and ran with the Stella’s.

A favorite story I have of Bowie is when he finally faced his fear and went into the pond. His fur-friend Emma the Dane was encouraging him to just try it, to at least dip his toes in, that it wouldn’t be so scary. But instead of slowly wading into the pond water, Bowie in a Hercules manner, jumped right in! Did he panic? Only slightly. Just as quickly as he had entered the pond, he was back out! It was a laugh! But then Bowie realized that it wasn’t so scary, and he was able to wade into the water with his fur-friends and enjoy how it refreshed him from the heat. Bowie always guarantees a smile and a laugh. He is a natural goofball.

Bowie, we love your special personality! We are so happy to have been able to watch you grow from puppy to handsome young intelligent (the list could go on) adult that you are!

Congratulations on being unanimously voted DayStar of the Month for March 2016!

Good Afternoon! This is Rosie here with your Spring Break 2016 update!

Spring Break is in full swing here at the Ranch! We have a lot of fur-friends vacationing here! From an American Eskimo to several Beagles, a handful of Terrier's, a couple Brittany's, a few King's, oodles of Doodles, and A LOT of Labs and Retrievers! But there is only ONE Bulldog, and that is me!

The weather has been tolerable. It snowed, it was sunny, and there is rumor of it snowing again later in the week. No thank you! Today was wonderful and sunny! The sun definitely made up for the chill in the air!

All of us vacationing here at the Ranch sure are having a great time, and our Star Buddies are doing a great job at taking care of us!

Be sure to check out all the pictures they took of us by clicking on the links below!

Primo: Do you smell what I smell?
Bella: No, what do you smell?!
Primo: Spring Break!
Bella: What does Spring Break smell like?!
Primo: Take a whiff!
Bella: Ew! No!
Primo: Not of that!
Bella: Oh...then what do you want me to take a whiff off?

Bella: MY NOSE IS OVERWHELMED! So many smells!
Primo: That is the smell of Spring Break!
Bella: I'm liking this vacation! Are you having fun?
Primo: Oh yeah, I'm going to smell that thing in the Star Buddy's hand.
Bella: Be careful.
Primo: It doesn't look dangerous.
Bella: What does it smell like?
Primo: Star Buddy.
Bella: What does it do?
Primo: She said something something picture.
Bella: Oh! I've heard of one of those.
Primo: Yeah, what is it called?
Bella: I dunno. Let's go explore over there!!
Primo: Okay! I'll meet you there! If that thing she is holding takes pictures, I want her to get my good side.
