DayStar of the Month ~ May 2013

Drum roll please… We are happy to announce that by a unanimous vote, Mr. Dozer Fialek has been voted as the DayStar of the Month for May 2013.  Dozer has been coming to the Ranch as a youngster about a year ago.  He is a wonderful Boxer boy full of energy, spirit, and joy!  I don’t think I’ve ever seen that boy with out a smile on his face!  He loves his play trips in the park, runs as fast as lightning, honing in on his fishing skills at the pond, and loves to work!  Whether working with our trainers or working with his mom, Dozer aims to please and does an excellent job at it!  It has truly been a pleasure getting to know this wonderful boy and watching him mature into a young man.  Congratulations to Mr. Dozer for being voted the DayStar of the Month for May 2013!

June 2013 / adjustments to the Socials in the Park

** Adjustment to the Off Leash Socials in the Park: Starting in June, we will be having the Socials every Saturday afternoon and Tuesday evening.  To have a Social hour, we need to have at least 3 people pre-scheduled by 6:00 pm the night before.  Walk-in's are welcome as long as there have been the 3 already on the schedule.  This will help the trainers be better prepared for who will be attending.

Socials are $10 for park members and $20 for non-park members.  The next one will be on Saturday, June 8 at 1:30 pm.  Grab your June calendar today for a complete list of times, dates, and classes!

Today seems to be Puppy Day!! We have at least 4 pups here under  the age of 4 months old!!
It sure is entertaining here in the office today!!

Campin' with your Canine in West Michigan!

West Michigan and the Great Lakes are the premier destination for campers, hikers, kayakers, and outdoorsy folks!  It’s so wonderful to see that more and more families are including the canine family members in their summer cabin and camp vacations!  When you set up your camper for your outdoor adventure, please remember the steps to keeping your dog safe and comfortable.  Always have fresh water available!  Check your pet regularly for fleas and ticks.  Monitor your dog to make sure their appetite is normal and not over heating or over exercising.  Be polite and clean up after your pet.  Keep them on a leash at all times and be aware that there may be other dogs also vacationing near by.  Please respect the rules of the campground for dogs as not all areas may be open to our canines to accompany you.  Please make sure your dog has proper and current identification on them.  Do not leave your dog in a camper or car in the heat!

Most campgrounds do not allow owners to leave their dogs at campsites unattended, but don’t let that deter your plans.  If you want to spend a day at the lake, check out a local tourist attraction, and spend a day away from your campsite know that Dog Star Ranch is here to help with lots of excellent options to you give your pup a day to play and socialize while you are away from camp.  Doggie Daycare is an excellent choice that runs Mondays through Fridays from 6:30 am to 6:30 pm.  It includes an off leash walk in the parks or pond with their canine friends (supervised by a Star Buddy)If a weekend or later evening departure is a better option for you, we offer a Day Board that might suite you better.  This is a 9:00 am to 9:00 pm boarding visit that can be done 7 days per week (weekends must be prescheduled).  This option is set up more like our overnight boarding where you can pick and choose what exercises you’d like your dog to have.  You can choose from a walk in the park or even luxury accommodations.

Also, campgrounds require that dogs be on at least a 6 foot leash at all times.  Would you like an option to allow your dog some off leash fun?  Dog Star Ranch has 48 acres of fenced in dog parks, nature trails, and ponds set up for lots of off leash fun and socialization!  We offer daypasses where you can come day by day or for those that are longer vacationers or come multiple times in the summer, you may want to consider one of our memberships.  You can do the month or even a seasonal / summer membership that gives your own key so you can come and go through the parks at your convenience.

The first step would be to call and talk to one of our Office Buddies who can help you decide what will work out best for you and your canine family member.  First time canine guests do need to have a temperament test done by our trainers so that we can get to know them better, but that can be done on arrival if needed.  For a complete list of prices or services, check out www.dogstarranch.com or give us a call at (231)766-0444.  Make sure to follow us on Facebook as we share lots of fun information, photographs, events, stories, and specials with our fans there!  We would love to give your dog somethin’ to bark about during your visit to West Michigan this summer!

Park Members: PLEASE READ

EVERY year, this guy makes an appearance in the parks. Please read the information below. He is not harmful to your or you dogs, but be aware that he along with other wildlife share the trails and the parks with us.

"The Hognose Snake is not considered dangerous to humans. It is a docile snake. When harassed, it may hiss and strike but does not bite. Sometimes it plays dead and/or excretes a foul musk when threatened. Eastern hognose snakes are sold in the pet trade, but can be difficult to keep due their dietary requirements (they are susceptible to liver problems if fed on rodents)."

Best Friends :)

We have a tie for the DayStar of the Month for April 2013!

This has only happened a few times before, but we have an exact tie down the middle for DayStar of the Month for April 2013!  Congrats to Miss Brandi McManus for being one of the DayStars of the Month for April!  Brandi started coming to us in the summer of 2012 as a very shy girl.  She just couldn’t figure out why her mom was dropping her off at such a scary place.  It did not take long for her to realize that there was nothing scary about doggie daycare!  This was a fun place where she was able to meet new human friends and new canine friends!  This was a place where she could run and play to her hearts content!  Now she is so happy to check in and so happy to tell her mom all about her adventures at the end of the day!  Miss Brandi, it has been so wonderful to get to know you and see how much you have grown since you started coming.  We are so happy to name Brandi McManus one of the ties for the DayStar of the Month for April 2013!

This has only happened a few times before, but we have an exact tie down the middle for DayStar of the Month for April 2013!  Congrats to Miss Elsa Garrison for being one of the DayStars of the Month for April!  Elsa is a wonderful doodle girl that has been coming to the Ranch since the fall of 2012 as a five month old pup.  It has been a wonderful adventure to watch her grow and see her pup fur coat change into a big girl coat.  Beep, beep!  Here is the Dog-Gone-Waggin’ and out hops Elsa with her pretty smile ready to start the day.  Most days she needs a bath before leaving, but that just shows how much fun she’s had! Water, sand, mud, or snow, she doesn’t care!  She loves to romp and play no matter the season, but when she’s back in the building; she has her spot on the couch where she enjoys her afternoon nap.  Elsa, it’s been a pleasure watching you grow up into a lovely lady.   We are so happy to name Elsa Garrison one of the ties for the DayStar of the Month for April 2013!
