March 20th

Update!

To all the concerned bystanders that called DSR about a black dog running in the road in front of Dog Star Ranch on 3/19/2013

As Jen was pulling in the driveway to Dog Star Ranch On March 19, 2013 at 8:45 am, there was a red, four door car in the driveway headed towards Whitehall Road. The car was not moving, the driver’s door was wide open, and the rear passenger door was open. The man was leaning over a black dog outside the car near the rear passenger door. She pulled along side the car and asked if everything was okay. The man replied that he was okay, but he was concerned as he thought the dog was going to throw up and didn’t want that in the car. As she walked to the building, she noticed the man heaved the black dog over the fence into our Small Dog Park and drove away.

DSR Staff went out to the Small Dog Park, in the freezing wind and snow, to see if we could catch this guy. He was very, very fearful with his hackles up and he was running all over the park, primarily staying in the corner where his “dad” left him. It was clear that he was not going to come any where near to us, so she called 911 and explained what happened and that we needed Animal Control’s assistance to catching this guy.

During the second attempt to catch him with Animal Control he escaped from our parks and is running the neighborhood, but repeatedly returns to the corner where his dad abandon him. After endless attempts to catch him the Animal Control Officer brought in a live trap.

He was successfully trapped around 8:00 pm.

This approximately 6 year old male dog didn’t understand what happened to him, but was so scared of all the people trying to help him. It was painful to watch him dodge cars and flee from people trying to help him only to see him return in hopes that his dad was waiting.

Dog Star Ranch has high hopes that this dog aka BLAZE will find his forever home through the rescue systems.

Goodbye February, and Hello March!

Hard to believe February has came and gone,
now it is time to get rid of this snow and
welcome on in some Spring weather!!!! ;)

Canine Diets / Updates

Good morning everyone!  Lots of you have chosen Orijen and Acana dog food as the diet of choice for your beloved canine.  This is an excellent grain free, high protein food, often called the Cadillac of dog kibbles.  As many of your are starting to notice, the Champion food company (produces both Orijen and Acana products) has made some adjustments with their packaging and pricing.  The products have not changed, they are the same quality that you have been used to and expect from them.  We do currently have Orijen Adult and 6 Fish in the at the previous rate, but the Senior is at the new pricing and packaging.  (At the bottom of this posting, I have listed the new pricing.)

I also wanted to take this opportunity to let you know that next week we will be getting a new food at the Ranch.  We will now be carrying the Zignature lines.  This is very comparable to Orijen and Acana, but more reasonably priced.  These are natural, limited ingredient formulas that put animal proteins first, grain free, gluten free, chicken free (no meat, fat, or eggs), and made without potatoes or tapioca.  It also contains sunflower oil which is high in linoleic acid (omega-3 fatty acid) which is great for the skin and coat.  To learn more about the Zignature foods, check out their site at www.zignature.com.  I will be ordering these next week and hope to have them by Friday, 3/8.  Price wise, the 13.5# bags are between $30.99-$33.99 and the 27# bags are between $54.99-$59.99.

If you have any questions please let me know.  If you are ever looking for a specific food, please mention it to me.  We can get so many options through our wholesale companies so I may be able to locate a specific product for you even if we don't carry it all the time at the Ranch.
