DayStar of the Month! ~ February 2011

The first DayStar of the Month is Miss Stella Joslin! Stella has been coming to Doggie Daycare since 2006 with her brother, Tre. (I had to dig out one of my favorite pictures from 2008 of Stella "blowing bubbles" in the mud puddle.) Every now and then Stella would be a little much for the whole daycare group so she would have solo play times with her favorite Star Buddies. For the past couple months, Stella has been doing so well, that she's grouped all the time! It's impossible for any Star Buddy to walk through Pup Paradise without giving her a big hug!

Congrats to Stella, our "Miss February" ;)

Calling all Therapy Dogs ;)

Calling all Therapy Dogs! Carol and Jen are thinking of putting together a once a month visits to local facilities, such as senior care homes or with special needs children, with our Therapy Dogs. If you are interested in participating, please let us know! Also send over suggestions for days/times that would work best so we can find times that will work for everyone. With Jen and Carol manning the Wag-On-Inn, we would more than likely be looking at evenings or weekends.

Are you interested in seeing if your dog could be a Therapy Dog? Contact Dog Star Ranch today to see what you would need to do get started!

DayStar of the Month!

We are starting something new with our Doggie Daycare program. On Monday we will announce the first DayStar of the Month! At the end of every month, the Star Buddies will pick a Daycare Dog that has stood out to them and we'll highlight that dog here and on the Facebook page. Along with being online they will also get a free toy ;)

Happy Friday Everyone!

Happy Friday Everyone! I wanted to take some time and remind you about the Dog Star Ranch Saturday Social Hours. These Socials happen every Saturday and tomorrow looks like it will be a fabulous weather day to do one! These Socials happen in the Small Dog Park and are under the supervision of the DSR Trainer. It's a lot like a supervised Star Buddy Walk in the Parks with owners participation ;) We hope to see you all tomorrow!

Are you looking to do an obedience class? We have a Risin' Star Basic Obedience class starting tomorrow! This is a wonderful foundation 6 week course that teaches you and your dog basic manners ~ sit, stay, come, loose leash walking, heeling, and recall. If you are interested, call (231)766-0444 today!

Finally!

Finally we have had a nice enough day that we can enjoy a play trip out in the parks and not have to deal with the wind (the last couple days our runs were in the indoor arena to protect us from the cold). Maybe spring time is getting closer?

So who was in daycare today?

Happy Valentine's Day from all the Star Buddies and Dogs at Dog Star Ranch!

Meet Miss Vela

Meet our new My Way Home Dog Vela. Many of you may know Vela from the parks or daycare. She is a black and white, possible boxer/lab mix (not for sure), approximately 1 year old, and 40 pounds. She is spayed, up to date on vaccines (through Lakeshore Animal Hospital).
Vela is a very happy-go-lucky and active girl with a generally affectionate disposition toward her family and familiar humans, yet wary of strange humans in her territory. She loves to run and fetch with her chuck it on the beach! Excellent with other dogs and cats, though some cats don't care for her energy! She is very intelligent and quite trainable. Her favorite treats are freeze-dried liver bits and raw meaty bones. She can stay occupied for hours with pork shoulders, ham hocks, beef ribs, lamb shanks, etc.

Blank Greeting Cards

Are you a parent of one of the My Way Home dogs and you'd like a print out of your very own of your dog's greeting card image? Email jenn@dogstarranch.com. On Monday, 2/14/2011 I am going to order some prints of these images to have them framed and on display in the Wag-On-In!

Please include the size, quantity, matte or glossy. I will then email you a confirmation and a total cost. Thank you!

Thursday, February 10

As today was a super freezing day to say the least, we opted to do all of our fieldtrips and Star Buddy Walks in the indoor arena. That kept everyone out of the cold and protected their feet from the cold and ice. Everyone had a great time and we had over 35 dogs today! That's fabulous!
*
I do have one new project that I would like to share with you. We are in the process of making blank greeting cards with the My Way Home dogs. Each card will be dedicated to one individual and the set will be complete with each dog. As new dogs join, we'll make new cards. They will be available for sale soon and all proceeds go right to the My Way Home program!

Blizzard Aftermath at Dog Star Ranch ;)

“So this is Murfee checking in with all you Dog Stars out there… How are you doing after this Blizzard of 2011 coated Michigan?! The humans seem to make a “big deal” over having to bundle up and head out, but I’m lovin’ it! We’ll I’ve been out to the Community Yards and Star Buddy Park, but I talked Matthew into taking me out in the rest of the Dog Star Ranch Dog Parks to see just how much snow had fallen… Wow, I think I was born to be a winter dog! To the Dog Stars, if you can talk your humans into bringing you to the parks, make sure they bundle up as they aren’t blessed with nice, natural fur coats like us. To the humans, drive safe on those roads and if you don’t feel like bundling up, Daycare is always a fabulous option for your beloved canine ;)
Happy Blizzard of 2011 Everyone!” ~ Murfee

Happy February!

February is Pet Dental Health Month! Periodically we'll post information to help you keep your dog smiling with a healthy mouth!
*
“The mouth and its associated structure are very important to animals, not only for eating but also for grooming and manipulating things. This part of the body contains many nerves and is served by a plentiful blood supply, making dental problems more serious than you might expect. Mouth pain can keep an animal from eating enough or grooming properly.” ~ Dr. Pitcairn’s Complete Guide to Natural Health for Dogs & Cats
