Happy Birthday to... Who?

Today all the Daystars celebrated a birthday for one of their human friends, Carol! Carol may be off today, but everyone sends their hugs and waggin' tails her way!
Remember the newest perk to being a member in daycare? An additional walk through the Canine Frontier and what a beautiful day it was for that!

A hot day in Muskegon today!!!

WOW! It's gonna be a hot one today! The weather man says it will be in the high 80's, maybe even into the 90's! Summer is definitely here, at least for now, never quite sure with Michigan!

New to the Ranch starting May 28

Dog Star Ranch likes to provide the best for your dog through our services and our products. We like to carry products that can’t be found everywhere and provide the best in health and nutritional care for your canine companion. For those that are not familiar with our products, I will introduce you to our current selection and present you with the newest addition to our line.

What’s at the “Top of the Line” in Dog Foods?
Orijen & Acana! Orijen and Acana products are made by Champion Petfoods and Orijen is the best of the best when it comes to dog foods! They provide a unique product from Canada and all of the natural ingredients in their foods are raised locally (to them). They range from 70% to 75% meats (fish, chicken, or beef depending on the formula) and the other 30% is fruits and veggies. Their products are full of Omegas and vitamins to promote overall health. Acana is also made by the Champion Petfoods company. It has the same natural and rich ingredients, just in lower ratios (60%:40%) which drops the retail price in comparison to the Orijen.
To learn more about Orijen, check out http://www.orijen.ca/orijen/about/
To learn more about Acana, check out http://www.championpetfoods.com/acana/
** On a side note, we carry several varieties of both products in the 30 lbs. bags. We work with a great wholesaler company and can order various sizes (samples, 5 lbs., and 15 lbs.), formulas (6 Fish, Adult, Senior, Puppy, Large Puppy, and Red), and even cat products! To find out more or to place an order, talk to a Welcome Buddy today or contact the Wag-On-Inn at (231)766-0444.

What’s another option in Natural Canine Nutrition? I would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to our newest addition to the DSR canine food line ~ Nature’s Variety. Nature’s Variety is another all natural product and it comes in a variety of forms (dry kibble, canned, frozen raw, and treats). From the Nature’s Variety, DSR will be carrying the Prairie line (not to be confused with the Prairie line of the Acana products) and the Instinct line. Prairie is a pure, balanced diet filled with meat, fruits, veggies, and some grains (oatmeal, barley). We will be carrying the dry kibble versions of Prairie. Now the Instinct is a little different. These foods are completely grain free and come in a kibble, canned, treats, and RAW FROZEN. Yes, DSR will now be carrying raw foods!
** Again, we will be carrying these versions in the larger sizes (in kibble and canned) and primarily in the chicken, beef, and lamb. They do have products in venison, bison, rabbit, and duck along with products for your feline friends. To find out more or to place an order, talk to a Welcome Buddy today or contact the Wag-On-Inn at (231)766-0444.

We never let a little rain stop the Daycare Fun!

Today happened to be Tarby's last daycare day. He's moving out of the state. Best of luck to you and your mom! It's been great getting to know you and we hope you stop by and say hello if you are ever back in Michigan!

Something NEW is happening to DSR Daycare and Park Member Bonuses!

Okay, let’s start from the beginning…

When your dog is in Daycare what does he/she do?

The DSR Daycare program is designed to give dogs a day of socialization and interaction with other dogs and humans. Upon arrival all dogs are put into a Community Yard alone to allow themselves time to settle and go to the bathroom. Once they are ready, they are mixed in with the Daycare groups in the larger group Community Yards (or inside in the Luxury Loft or Pup Paradise depending on what group they belong to) to play with their canine friends. Once everyone has arrived for the day, we start putting together our larger groups for the Star Buddy Walk/fieldtrip into the park (Star Buddy Park, Cody’s Cove, or the Special Use Park). The fieldtrip is about an hour in length and fully off leash fun that is supervised by our staff members! Once the fieldtrip has been completed (usually about the middle of the day or early afternoon), the dogs are brought back and put into their smaller groups in their Community Yards, Luxury Loft, Pup Paradise, or as an office helper. For the remainder of the afternoon, they play in their groups (indoors or outdoors) or enjoy an afternoon nap inside. Again, that depends on the dog and what their preferences are (playing in the water troughs outside or snoozing on the couch inside). Towards the end of the afternoon, we start the “clean up” process and the dogs are blow out to help get rid of some of the sand and dirt that may have accumulated. Then it’s home with the parents to tell them all about their day at the Ranch!
Okay, now you know a typical DSR Daycare day. Wanna hear the NEW BONUS for Park Members while in Daycare? Oh boy, we have a special treat for you (well, for your dog really)! For dogs that are in Daycare and are Park Members we are going to add something special to their Daycare with an afternoon walk in the Canine Frontier! A couple of Star Buddies will round up all the Daycare/Park Member dogs and take them for a loop around the 24 acres of nature trails! Most of the Park Members visit the trails on a regular basis and now they can enjoy the trails with their Daycare pals! How cool is that! This will start next Monday, May 24. A walk in the Canine Frontier will also be something that can be added on to a boarding stay for those that are interested. What if you are not a member but want your dog to participate in this bonus? You can do one of two things ~ Sign up your pup for a Park Membership and enjoy the parks whenever you would like to! OR it would be $10 added on to the cost of the Daycare (the $10 cost also applies when it’s added to a boarding reservation).

Maybe I can talk one of the Star Buddies into being a Welcome Buddy for the day and I can go too! Hmm… If you have any questions about this new addition to our services, please let me know. Have a great day and enjoy this wonderful weather!

Is It Summer Already??

It was a beautiful day out at the park today. Our ponds were full with puppies of all shapes and sizes. Some dogs were lazing in the shade while others were splish-splashing in the pond. One thing was for sure today though, EVERYONE was enjoying our warm weather!

A member of the DSR training staff will be on hand to discuss issues. This time we would like a tentative head count, so please call or email to let us know you will be attending. What is the SATURDAY SOCIAL?

Have you ever wanted to know the proper way to introduce your dog to other dogs (and humans) on or off leash? When you meet other people and their canines do you feel tense and anxious? Fear no more! We will help give you the tools to be a confident dog owner!
* * * * * * * *
The Saturday Morning Socials will be a weekly event available to members and non-members alike. Every Saturday from 9:00am to 10:00am, the Dog Star Ranch trainer, Kevin, will be out in the parks. As a dog trainer, the biggest challenge that Kevin sees in dog owners is a lack of confidence. Lacking confidence and the knowledge of canine non-verbal communication can be a recipe for a bad situation. This class is designed to help you overcome those hurdles. The cost to participate in the social is $20.00 (All Park Members receive a 50% discount). Each dog must have a current Temperament Safety Test to participate. Do you have questions about the Social? Please contact the Wag-On-Inn if you have questions or wish to participate so we can have a general head count, but walk-in’s are always welcomed. The Social will be taking place in the Small Dog Park so it will be unavailable for general use at this time.
********
Calling all Puppies and Small Dogs! We would like to personally invite you to our NEW Puppy & Small Dog Saturday Socials! Starting the first Saturday in June, we will be adding a Puppy / Small Dog Social Hour! This Social will be from 11:00 am ~ 12:00 pm EVERY Saturday. The ever popular Original Saturday Social for all dogs (small, big, old, young) will continue to be on Saturday mornings from 9:00 am ~ 10:00 am EVERY Saturday. The cost to participate in a Social Hour is $10 per dog (per hour) for DSR Park Members and $20 per dog (per hour) for Non-members. No appointment needed! Just show up and join in the fun!
********
Also NEW to the Socials… For those of you Daycare Stars that do the 20 Daycare Packages and come weekly we have a special gift for you! Once a month you will receive a FREE Saturday Social (your choice of the Regular or the Puppy / Small Social and you get to choose the day)! Wanna see how your dog plays and interacts with other dogs in Daycare? No you can earn a Free Social monthly and see for yourself!
Let us know if you have any questions regarding the Social or any of the Ranch services!

New Yellow Dog Designs!

Check out these new Yellow Dog designs along with current favorites!

The Thursday Star Buddy Walk

Today I had 21 friends in Daycare and we all investigated the Indoor Training Arena together. No dog left behind! There were these three dogs (Juno, Mia and Oscar) that would not stop running, taking turns chasing one another. Then of course the tennis ball lovers: Rebel, Copper, Sophie, Jake, and Lexi were emptying their gas takes going after the ball. While Duke, Petey, Bear, Phoebe, Arie, Sam B, Sam C, Buddy, Benny, Goldie, Sasha, Ginger, and Sadie where soaking in all of the smells that the arena had to offer while participating in games of their own. There was a visitor that entered our Star Buddy Walk, Riley, she was in a One-on-One Training session with Kevin and we were all on our best behavior. She was only with us for a couple minutes because she is on the path to becoming a therapy dog and she is still in training. As we were ending our walk we got some fresh air to end our last fifteen minutes outside because the rain stopped. It was not too bad when it wasn't raining, but that didn't last long as the rain came back...
