A spring Tuesday here at DSR...

A day that started out as rainy and wet turned around by the afternoon with some sunshine. The land sure feels like it is coming to life... Very green and happy. The mint greets you as you walk up towards to the parks and the orchids decorate the Wag-On-Inn. The Ranch is full of life, plant, human, and of course, canine. All of the daycare (and boarding) dogs loved taking advantage of this break from the mosquitos. Again, we all hope you had a fabulous Memorial Day weekend. The weather was perfect for family gatherings and outdoor fun.

Friday, 5/22 and a Happy Memorial Day to You!

Happy Friday to yall! And a very mucky Friday it was... A lot of the standing water has soaked up, but didn't go too far. The Star Buddy Park could also be called the Star Buddy Swamp Land. Nice, thick, (smelly) goopy mud and puddles are our playgrounds for the day! Gotta move super speedy so the mosquitos can't catch us! They must have recently hatched and they are trying to take over the Ranch, but we won't let that happen! The Ranch is for the dogs! We hope that you all have a wonderful start to your Memorial Day weekend. Make sure to take some time to remember those serving us around the world. As a reminder, the Wag-On-Inn will be closed on Monday, 5/25 (Sorry, no Daycare on Monday). Enjoy your three day weekend and we'll see you on Tuesday!

Check out the new "ponds" of the Ranch!

The Active Dog Park is almost fully under water. It even had some special guests! There have been a pair of ducks hanging out there enjoying their daily swim. Maybe they came over from the Duck Creek RV Resort. Today was their open house and they were probably taking a break from all the fun. Check them out at http://www.duckcreekrvresort.com/. The rest of the park seems to be in the same pattern as the Active Dog Park. Wet and wet and more wet... But we never stop, we just may slow down through the deep spots, but we always plug on! All the Star Buddies are hard at work with all us Daycare dogs, but they are also trying super hard to get the Wag-N-Train arena ready for it's first big event. Since the Training Park is also under water, we are having our Training Unleashed weekend in the cover of the arena. It's not dry in there, but it's not as wet as the outdoors.

(Check out who has a new friend... Dax and Daisy enjoyed their run together!)

Happy Birthday Miss Aggie!

The sun is shining (or trying to anyway) and it is a wonderful day to celebrate! Today, a Daycare favorite amongst the "littles" is here to party for her 4th birthday! Happy Birthday to you Aggie. We hope that you had a great one! Thank you for spending it with us.

Today was kind of a special day... Carol and Michelle loaded up the Dog-Gone-Waggin' and went to spend the day at an Oakridge PreSchool to help teach kids how to be safe around dogs and how to be a responsible pet owner. Sasha, Gilligan, Mika, and Buck are old pro's to doing school visits. They left first thing in the morning and didn't return until late afternoon and the camera was with them, so I don't have any Daycare photos to share with you for today. We did have a lot of little guys here to celebrate with Miss Aggie - Goliath, Roo, Sami, Boogie, Kora, and Sami B. We also had the active/big kids today - Beene and Izzy, Bella, Copper, Juno, Lilly, Missy, Morgan, Samantha, and Tristan. We also had a new gal join the mix - Missy Gypsy. We had some special older dogs that were able to take her out and show her the ropes of the park. Gunner was glad to help! It was a great day all around! Happy Birthday Missy Aggie!

Sun, Spring, and Snakes... 5/8/2009

So the story of the day, or the week rather, has been the nice sunny weather. With this fabulous spring/summer weather in the air, some of the Michigan residents are starting to come out and visit a little bit more... A couple in particular that we have been seeing a lot of this week is a couple eastern hog-nosed snakes. With all the rain they have been looking for dry ground and warm sunlight. There have been a couple seen by the start to the Canine Frontier and one in Central Bark. If you come across one of these guys, don't be alarmed. They are not venemous and do not pose a threat to you or your dog(s). They "stand up" slightly trying to impersonate a cobra, but then play dead and give off a nasty smelling odor. A couple of the dogs found one today while they were out playing at the pond. I wanted to remind you that we try to keep the land of the Ranch as natural as it can be so you may come across one of these critters or others of the woods and lands during one of your visits. Feel free to stop by and let the Wag-On-Inn know "who" you see out and about and if you have any issues. Happy Spring!

TONIGHT Dog Star Ranch will be a special guest to the Muskegon Thunder (indoor football team at the LC Walker arena). Dog Star Ranch will have a table set up with fliers and information, but there’s more in store… Kevin and Nick along with Onka, Banjo, and Missy will be the half time entertainment! They will be doing a condensed version of what you can expect to see at the May Training Unleashed event. They will demonstrate protection skills in a dog (Nick will be in the bite suit) and also different obedience skills. You definitely won’t want to miss this! To find out more about the Muskegon Thunder check out www.muskegonthunderfootball.com/. It’s just $5 to come and see the game and visit with DSR! Have a great week and we'll see you next Monday hopefully with a few less puddles and lots more sunshine!
