Thunderstormin' Thursday...

From about 10:00 am on, all the weather did was rain, rain, thunder, and rain some more… All of our fieldtrips were done indoor with the help of the Wag-N-Train arena so there will be no photos to share. The dogs never seem to mind where they play as long as they get to play in the dirt! Today we had our little group of Terriers back for more action – Angus, Cracker Jack, Willie, Rowdy, and Tarby. These guys joined the other little dudes – Boogie, Gilly, Rilley, Sam, and Frodo. As far as the big kids go, we have Barkley, Boo, Beene, Izzy, Bo, Ramsey, Buddy, Copper, Dax, Finn, Jola, Missy, Molly, Rebel, Tucker R, and Tucker Z. We also have Meleny and Zeek that are doing daycare while they are boarding and they didn’t want to miss a step. Now all of these guys we know would have loved to play in the rain, but with the thunderstorms, it’s just not safe… Speaking of thunderstorms… Tomorrow night Dog Star Ranch will be a special guest to the Muskegon Thunder (indoor football team at the LC Walker arena). Dog Star Ranch will have a table set up with fliers and information, but there’s more in store… Kevin and Nick along with Onka, Banjo, and Missy will be the half time entertainment! They will be doing a condensed version of what you can expect to see at the May Training Unleashed event. They will demonstrate protection skills in a dog (Nick will be in the bite suit) and also different obedience skills. You definitely won’t want to miss this! To find out more about the Muskegon Thunder check out It’s just $5 to come and see the game and visit with DSR!

Fun-lovin' Friday!

Okay, it's about 1pm and the Ranch is FULL of wet, happy, sandy, dirty, Daycare dogs! What a perfect way to end the week! Not to mention it was well into the 60's today (maybe even hit 70). Spring might actually be here this time and we are ready to enjoy it. Have a wonderful weekend everyone and we'll cya next week!

Combo of 4/22 and 4/23 Photos...

It was a beautiful sunny spring day at the Ranch today! The parks are full of members, new and old. It's so great to see so many dogs and their humans enjoying the day. We also have a birthday to celebrate! Today is Barkley's birthday! He may not be here for Daycare, but all his pals want to wish him the best on his special day.

Tues, 4/21/09

Turned out to be another wet and frigid day here in Michigan. It almost makes me want a cup of hot cocoa… almost, but not quite… Due to the windy weather the cameras was a “no go” again today. Don’t worry, before long we’ll be taking more photos than we’ll know what to do with! I love to see such a wide range of Daycare kids! They could be the gentle giants all the way down to the little lap guys and they all have so much fun in their own way! The four chins (Mika, Kora, Gilly, and Boogie), Sami, Roo, and Tarby were wonderful office helpers today when they weren’t outside playing. They made sure to let me know whenever a new guest came to check in and gave them a big Ranch “hello.” Alrighty-roo Baloo, Beau, Buster, and Dillon. Your mom just called and wants you clean at the end of the day. Let’s make sure you get good and dirty before you head to the grooming room! Elf, that means you too! Sounds like a plan even for those that aren’t getting a bath at the end of the day! I think it’s a toss up for the dogs as to which is more fun ~ playing in the murky mud puddles or playing in the pond… Okay, I think you’re right, the pond would win, but the puddles sure are fun! Okay, Roll Call just so I don’t miss anyone…Baloo Bear, Beauregard, Beene, Bosley, Buddy, Buster Bluey (that’s a lotta B’s), Dillon, Elf, Frances, Ginger, Gloria, Izzy, Juno, Lilly, Mason Mae, Missy, Morgan, Princes, Rebel, Red, Rockingham, Roo, Sami, Tarby, and Tristan. We had a new gal join the party today. Miss Princess came for her first day and spent most of it getting to know Kevin. Kevin was very proud of her. She spend a lot of time getting used to the other dogs around her (through the fences and in other yards), but she did very well. At her next visit we hope to introduce her to some new friends too. For those in training exercises and events today, make sure to check back later for some notes from Kevin... I think that's the full scoop with whipped cream and a cherry on top! We'll cya'll tomorrow!

Some general updates from DSR...

April 2009

All of us at the Ranch hope that you are having a wonderful start to your spring season (regardless of the weather that Michigan seems to bring along). I just wanted to send you all a couple updates about the Dog Star Ranch “store” and the change in items that we have available for you and your canine companion.
DSR will no longer be carrying Canidae dog foods. For those of you that wish to continue with the Canidae products they can be purchased at Tri County Feed Service in Montague. We have done some investigating and found some foods that sparked our interest. Orijen is produced by a family owned company and provides a fabulous product that is 70% meat/protein and 30% veggies/fruits. Their products are made from farm-fresh meats (high proteins), low carbohydrate, natural blend of Omega 3 and Omega 6 essential fatty acids, grain free, all natural and organic. For all the specific information on what Orijen can offer to your dog, check out The other type of food that we will carry is FROMM. This is also a very high protein food with no corn type fillers. This is also a natural, holistic food. For boarding guests that choose to have us feed DSR food, we will be switching from the Canidae to the FROMM. FROMM can be found at If you have any questions regarding the food change or would like to know more about these new foods, please let us know. Sample bags will be available for purchase if you would like to try either of these products. On of our goals at Dog Star Ranch is to provide you and your canine friend the best options in overall health and information.
Like always we will continue to stock the Wag-On-Inn with a variety of Ranch apparel for the humans. We have also started an on-line store to help you get exactly what you are looking for from Dog Star Ranch. Check it out at There is a wide range of items from T-shirts, hooded sweatshirts, dog bowls and shirts, stickers, ornaments, mugs, hats, bags, and so much more. It can be ordered right online and sent to your door. Enjoy!
One other little change that you might see out in the parks… We have decided to go with a new poop bag company. These bags will be in our various poop coops, but they will be on a roll (like paper towels). We are hoping that this helps cut down on wasted bags. Another major bonus is that they are biodegradable. How cool is that! They can be found at if you would like more information.
I think that about wraps it up for today. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Also don’t forget to grab your tickets today for our special event in May. You won’t want to miss a second of this!

DSR Red Dingos ARE IN!!!

The very special Dog Star Ranch Red Dingo ID tag is now available. They come in the medium size, fit both large and small breed dogs, and can ONLY be found at DSR. The tags will be engraved with your dog's personal contact information and sent directly to DSR for you. Don't forget to order one for your dog's very own today!
Dog Star Ranch carries all the different varieties of Red Dingo Tags. Check out the display in the Wag-On-Inn or visit to view them all! If you have any questions about the Red Dingo products, contact Jen at

Happy Muddy Monday to Ya'll!

Ah, spring must be here because it was a wet and wild (and definitely muddy) day. Because it was a bit on the chillier side, the Daycare kids didn’t spend quite as much time outdoors as normal. They took their fun fieldtrip then played and wrestled in the various Daycare rooms. Also, because it was so wet and cold, we didn’t want to use the camera today. Sorry, no photos of the muddy dogs, but I’m sure you can picture what they looked like… Sammie, Banjo, and Rebel went from versions of blonde to having a contest to see who would make the best looking chocolate lab… Phoebe and Pippi were trying to play tricks on their Star Buddies. When they are wet and muddy, it makes it difficult to tell who is who, but we know you girls well enough, but nice try. Copper, you and Ginger probably earn the title for today’s dirtiest kids. Granted, Ginger has a white coat which made her look that much dirtier, but you both were good and grimy. Missy, you had fun just the same, but your coat holds it so much better, until we give you a good scratch then we can see how dirty you are as well. No worries parents! Some of the kids are headed to the grooming room for a cleaning and the rest will be blown off so you won’t see near the amount of dirt that they truly are wearing. Another successful day in the eyes of the dogs and their Star Buddies has come to a close. Thank you for spending it with us. Make sure to get plenty of zzzz’s because there is lots more fun to be had this week. News says it may get up to 70 degrees by the end of the week. Let’s hope that is correct. Cody’s Cove, her we come!

Note on Tuesday's Training...

Hey everyone. I just wanted to post a quick note for all of the pups that are in the Star Structured Daycare and other Training options today. I apologize, but these services will not be able to be done today. On his way into work, Kevin was in a car accident. No worries, he is okay. He is getting checked over at the hospital, but he's okay. Keep him in your thoughts and prayers throughout the day. I just wanted to let everyone know who was expecting training for today that it will have to be postponed. No worries! All the dogs will have a great day of Daycare like always!

The kick off to Spring Break 2009

What a great day! It's definitely on the windy side, not near as warm as it may be where humans are enjoying their Spring Break, but it's fabulous to be in Michigan at the Ranch if you're a canine! Lots of our Daycare guests were able to join in with our Boarding guests giving everyone that many more friends to play with. Reminder to all the parents... Spring in Michigan means a wet and muddy Ranch, but a happy dog. If you want your pouch to have a bath before heading home, make sure to mention it to the morning Star Buddy (or when you call to schedule your Daycare visit). These dogs are loving the gigantic mud puddles that are taking over the Star Buddy Park. Who needs a pond when we have plenty of splashing fun in the puddles (Just kidding! The pond is so much more fun. Let's get it to warm up a bit more then we'll head back there...)!
Thanx for a great start to the week. For all you basketball fans, make sure you are cheering on the Spartans in tonights game (sorry, I'm a major MSU fan). Sleep well and we'll see you bright and early tomorrow!

Double the Birthday Fun!

What a fabulously wonderful way to end off the week!!! It's Friday, April 3 and we have TWO very special birthdays to celebrate! Mr. BENNIE is 2 today! He wanted to send some extra special hugs and kisses down to his mom in Florida. He's having a great time and can't wait to tell you all about it. Ms. MEGGY is 9 today! What a great way to spend your birthday... Daycare fun with your friends and the spa treatment by the Stylists to the Stars. Ahhh... a warm bath and massage followed by a style and pedicure. Just what this gal asked for! Thank you very much Meggy. All your pals loved the yummy treats. We are sooooo happy that we were able to spend this special day with you two.
And don't forget to spend your Spring Break with DSR Daycare! Today is the start of the Spring Break rush and we look forward to every minute of it. If you think of it, please have your parents give us a call so we know what days you will be coming. With this many dogs visiting DSR it helps to have a head count the day before.
