Happy Birthday Miss Meleny! We hope that you have a wonderful one! All the dogs really enjoyed the yummy treats. Did you make those yourself or did your mom help you? Everyone had a great day playing in what was left of the snow, now it's very slushy. Have a great day and we'll cya'll again soon!
We wanted to take some time and wish you all a wonderful Thanksgiving. May your holidays be bright and filled with yummy food and family fun.
We also wanted to give you some updates from this past weekend. On Saturday, November 22 there were eight dogs from the Ranch that went to take their Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test that was put on by the Muskegon Kennel Club. By participating in this event, the owners displayed how strongly they believe in being a responsible pet owner and that they are dedicated to the training, wellbeing, and happiness of their dogs. Congratulations to all of the participants! We are very proud to say that several of them earned their CGC title! Otis Dreiling Konig Rosen Rex Harris Banjo Orr Gus Saltzman Everyone did great and we were so happy to have such strong participation and support of the Ranch. Thank you for that. For those that missed this test or would like to retake it, don’t worry. Down the road we will be posting information about future testing dates.
We also wanted to send along some more general information. The 2009 Dog Star Ranch calendars are hot off the press! If you would like one (or several), stop by the Wag-On-Inn and purchase yours for $10.00. They include loads of photos of dogs doing what dogs do best!

If you would like to guarantee that your pooch has a place to stay, please call at least two weeks in advance. Spaces fill up very quickly. Our office hours do vary over the holiday season so call if you have any questions. If you are a park member, you always have priority boarding, so rest assured, we will always have room for your dog.

It was definitely a winter wonderland at the Ranch today. The snow was flippin’ and flyin’ so much that the camera would never have been able to capture all the fun without a big snowflake in the way of every shot. Nick makes sure that he is completely bundled up and now it’s time to round up the dogs. First up are the little guys with Sammie B, Sami J, Roo, Boogie, and some of the boarding dogs. Don’t worry guys, we’re just going out to play for a while then it’s back in for a warm snuggly nap. Sami J has her warm coat on so she’s ready to take on the wintry fun. Roo decided that she didn’t feel like handling the snow, so she was Jen’s special helper while the others were out plowin’ around. She loves to help and she’s very good at it, especially when it’s time to fill the treat bowls… These little guys never cease to make us smile. With all that snow whippin’ around you guys had so much fun. Time to make snow doggie angels! Next up is Beene, Chelsea, Ginger, Gracie, Hans, Izzy, Rebel, Lewie, and Tristan. These kids were ready to rock and roll! Bring on the snowy adventures because these dogs are ready! We were so worried about closing the pond, but you guys don’t seem to mind. Up and down and around the snow “mountain” is the perfect game of chase. “Eat my snow dust!” Everyone loved it so much that they all had to roll around in it for a while to get the full feel of the winter fun. Next up for the day are Phoebe and Pippi. Today they hung out with their pal, Buckstar, in the Luxury Loft and on their run. You girls are making great steps… REMINDERS: Who’s the Boss? Are you dealing with unwanted behaviors in your home and need some help? These classes will be one hour sessions aimed to help you be the pack leader. Please remember to leave your dogs at home for this class. This is more for the owners to gain information to achieve a peaceful home environment. The one hour class is $25.00. If you dog is a monthly Daycare participant, you would receive a $10.00 discount on this class. Sirius Star Members also receive 10% off.
The first class is scheduled for Wednesday, December 3 at 6:00pm. This class will meet once per week and the days will vary. If you would like to request the day that works best for you, email Jen at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Today was a pretty busy day for daycare. Lilly and Rebel ran with Duke and Sophie which just added to their craziness as they all bounced and wrestled in the snow. Stella and Tre ran with Buck and while Tre and Buck raced around to find the tennis balls in the snow, Stella was happy rolling around in the snow till Buck started throwing dirt on her as he dug a hole in the side of the sand hill. Red and Rock just wandered aimlessly in the snow with occasional bursts of energy to run and tackle each other. Tristan ran with the smaller dogs and had a blast chasing Elf and little Peppermint Patti around the snow covered field. Chelsea came in a little late but that didn’t lessen her fun as we walked around and threw sticks and snow balls for her to chase. Today the snow was really whippin’ around so we couldn’t get any photos of the little dudes, but they did enjoy it! Just when it looked like the snow was going to disappear, in the blink of an eye we had a winter wonderland again for everyone to enjoy.
Today is a very special day! Today we are celebrating Beauregard's 3rd Birthday! Happy Birthday Beau! We hope you had a great one. Thanx again for the yummy treats. The Star Buddies thought they looked yummy too, but they were just for us dogs...
The holiday season is fast approaching and this year the Ranch wants to “spice things up” a bit, but we are going to need your help… As you may know, we post a daily Blog for the dogs that are participating in our Daycare program. Every day we post photos and “tails” of their Ranch adventures for all to see. This year we are going to do “The 12 Daycare Days of Christmas” on the Blog. Each day we are going to post the daily photos but we are also going to share a heartwarming tale of pets and the holidays. This is where we need your help. If you have story that you would like to share, email them to Jen at email@example.com. We would need all possible submissions by Friday, December 5. For the 12 days we will be starting on Monday, December 8 and running until Tuesday, December 23. We are looking forward to hearing your stories and sharing them with others. Happy Holidays! Below is a sample and a story that we thought you would all enjoy. If you have any questions, please email Jen. Also don’t forget about the Holiday Dog Parade on Sunday, December 7 (see the blog from 11/13)!
Jen received as a forward from a friend. Original source is unknown…
Mary and her husband Jim had a dog named 'Lucky.' Lucky was a real character. Whenever Mary and Jim had company come for a weekend visit they would warn their friends to not leave their luggage open because Lucky would help himself to whatever struck his fancy. Inevitably, someone would forget and something would come up missing.
Mary or Jim would go to Lucky's toy box in the basement and there the treasure would be, amid all of Lucky's other favorite toys. Lucky always stashed his finds in his toy box and he was very particular that his toys stay in the box.
It happened that Mary found out she had breast cancer. Something told her she was going to die of this disease....in fact, she was just sure it was fatal.
She scheduled the double mastectomy, fear riding her shoulders. The night before she was to go to the hospital she cuddled with Lucky A thought struck her...what would happen to Lucky? Although the three-year-old dog liked Jim, he was Mary's dog through and through. If I die, Lucky will be abandoned, Mary thought. He won't understand that I didn't want to leave him. The thought made her sadder than thinking of her own death.
The double mastectomy was harder on Mary than her doctors had anticipated and Mary was hospitalized for over two weeks. Jim took Lucky for his evening walk faithfully, but the little dog just drooped, whining and miserable.
Finally the day came for Mary to leave the hospital. When she arrived home, Mary was so exhausted she couldn't even make it up the steps to her bedroom. Jim made his wife comfortable on the couch and left her to nap. Lucky stood watching Mary but he didn't come to her when she called. It made Mary sad but sleep soon overcame her and she dozed.
When Mary woke for a second she couldn't understand what was wrong. She couldn't move her head and her body felt heavy and hot. But panic soon gave way to laughter when Mary realized the problem. She was covered, literally blanketed, with every treasure Lucky owned! While she had slept, the sorrowing dog had made trip after trip to the basement bringing his beloved mistress all his favorite things in life. He had covered her with his love.
Mary forgot about dying. Instead she and Lucky began living again, walking further and further together every day. It's been 12 years now and Mary is still cancer-free. Lucky? He still steals treasures and stashes them in his toy box but Mary remains his greatest treasure.
Remember....live every day to the fullest. Each minute is a blessing from God. And never forget....the people who make a difference in our lives are not the ones with the most credentials, the most money, or the most awards They are the ones that care for us.
Today was pretty busy for us at the Ranch. Barkley and Tre were buddies for the day as they wrestled with each other and chased after the tennis balls together. Rebel was on her best behavior and was all about jumping on Lilly and trying to take her down, which seems to have become her life’s mission. Sarah was a little unsure of Daisy at first but once she realized who she was they took off chasing each other with Chelsea close on their heels. Boo and Duke enjoyed wrestling and chasing each other up and over the sand hill and when they grew tired they would sit on top of the hill so they could watch everything that was going on. Jack had a blast with the smaller dogs as they would chase him around the field trying to tackle him to the ground. Roo, Sami, and Lucy loved their adventures in the Special Use Park. Stella and Daisy had a great time chasing and tackling each other and when Stella wanted to take a break Daisy would run up and quickly poke her with her nose to get her to start chasing her again. Aside from the chilly wind, today was an excellent day and bonds between everyone were made stronger.
See the blog listed below this for some holiday fun with the Holiday Dog Parade curtousy of Miss Rebel...
This is Miss Rebel and I've got some news for you... Look what's going on in North Muskegon on Sunday, December 7! It's the Circle of Trees and the Holiday Dog Parade. Here is the flyer hot off the press from my dad. Myself and Dog Star Ranch will definitely be in attendance. If you would like to be in the Parade with your human, print off the attached information and mail it to North Muskegon City Hall at 1502 Ruddiman Drive, North Muskegon, Mi 49445. Those flyers are also available at Wag-On-Inn so just ask for one from Carol or Jen and they'll hook you up. I'd love to see you all there decked out in your holiday best!
Today was pretty busy. Georgia was eager to play with everyone but her 2 favorites were Buster and Baloo; she and Buster would chase each other around the field and when she needed a break she would go to Baloo and they would lay and wrestle on the sand hill. Beau decided he was going to rip a dead bush out of the ground and once he managed to pull it free everyone wanted a piece of it so he had to run through a gauntlet of open mouths while trying to hold onto his prize but unfortunately Chelsea was able to retrieve it from his grasp. Meleny and Tristan were glad to be reunited and had a blast chasing and tackling each other. Beene and Izzy were tearing it up out in the park as they always do, and every now and then they would gang up and tackle Lilly or Rebel while they were busy tackling each other. Sami and Roo went off on their own adventure, walking around the park and up and over the sand hill. Buddy, Harley and Spirit quickly became good pals as they became a blur of black and white while they wrestled, tackled and jumped around the field. Everyone had someone to keep them occupied and great memories were made.
So, it looks like fall is gone and winter is on its way in... No more denying it, there was snow on the ground to confirm it. That means that we are able to start looking towards a Winter Wonderland of fun throughout the parks. I think the dogs are more excited about that than the humans are… The humans are clutching their coffees and hot chocolates with goofy looking hats on their heads. If only they were born with natural fur coats like us dogs… And yet the story goes on. Today it was a fun one. Once Katie got all her layers on it was off to the Star Buddy Park we go. Today we have Chelsea, Ginger, Lewie, and Sugar to be first on the list. They were no stop action today. Maybe that’s because they had to run twice as hard to stay warm or they just had that much energy in them from over the weekend. Either way they had fun tearing it up all up and down the sand dune. Next up is Aggie, Buddy, Pookey, and Sammie B along with some boarding stars. They had a blast, but the cold air got to them a little faster so they had more fun playing inside out of the breeze. Phoebe and Pippi were also here for some daycare training fun. Both girls had a great day. Okay, everyone head home and have some hot cocoa to warm yourselves up. Sweet dreams...
There is something special going on at the Ranch today… No one can put their finger on exactly what it is, but everyone has an extra spring in their steps this morning… It’s gotta be this awesome weather that we are having. It almost feels like spring time. Everyone is just so full of life and adventure today. Today we also were able to see some friends that we haven’t seen in a while. So let’s see what kind of fun we can stir up… For a good warm up we all head out with Mel to the Special Use Park. It’s always the perfect place for some exploration. She heads out with Chelsea, Dexter, Ginger S, Ginger M, Frankie, Maddie, and Lewie. It may have been a while since Lewie was last with his Daycare buddies, but it didn’t take him long to remember the steps of the game. He had a great time with all his friends. Same goes for Ginger S. She was ready to hop right in the middle of all the fun. When they were in the Star Buddy Park it was all about who could find the biggest, therefore the best, sticks and branches. Everyone wanted to get in on the action. After that it was off to the pond for some wet and wild adventures. We kept trying to get Mel to go swimming with us, but she wasn’t having any of that. I guess it’s too cold when you aren’t wearing a natural fur coat. Sammie B, Reggie, and some of the more mellow Boarding Stars head out for their own fun in the Special Use Park. It’s always fun to be a part of the Sniffer group and put our noses to the ground to see what we can uncover… Next on the list was Miss Sissy. Her brother, Harley, is here for some training and she had a wonderful time being back at the Ranch. Then we have the Shar pei duo of Phoebe and Pippi. They had a great time out in the park and also spent some time working and training with Kevin. That concludes another Daycare day and another week. Have a great week and we hope to see you all again next week.
It’s a fantastic day of Daycare here at the Ranch! The weather is just so perfect for a fall day and our destination is Cody’s Cove. Everyone wants to get some swimming in before the chilly weekend weather heads our way… Even the front office kept their doors wide open to enjoy the breezy afternoon. All of the chins are here along with Sasha, Buck, and Bo Dean. They joined Lucy B and Ben and some boarding stars of Bailey and Lucy. Mel got everyone rounded up and moved out to the pond for a refreshing dip, or roll in the sand, whatever came first. Next on today’s agenda are Brady, Chelsea, Duke, Georgia, Jola, Lilly, Rebel, Sophie, Sugar, and Maddie. Now Mel, are you sure you can handle these “high octane” Dogstars? Of course you can! Open up the gates and let ‘em out! Off to the pond they go too with a giant sized splash. Everyone is eager to get in some wet and wild fun before the season comes to a close. Jola and Brady tried to see who could get the wettest and sandiest… I’m thinking Jola won, but that may only be because Brady went to the bath tub after his romp. Duke and Rebel played King (and Queen) of the picnic table. Rebel was queen until it was time to jump back in the water. Georgia may be new to the Daycare story, but she doesn’t take long to get right in the middle of the fun. In the pond or in the sand, she loves to romp and play. Maddie, Sophie, and Sugar made up the lab trio and they made sure that they had fun! Running, swimming, and fetching were the name of the game! Let’s not forget our buddy, Frankie. It’s been a while since we’ve had you visiting with us pal, so today you had some quality time with Tyler in the Star Buddy Park. Let’s crown you King of Sheba’s Summit for today! You Daystars make each day fun and exciting and for that we thank you. You can always make us laugh and smile.
Today was another fairly busy day. Ginger was excited to find Smokey here and spent most of her time walking beside him and licking his muzzle but when she wasn’t doing that she was wrestling with Elf and Tristan. Elf decided she was going to take on Smokey and Sugar in a game of tug-a-war so she was usually in the middle pulling them off balance so she could steal the stick and they would be forced to chase her to get it back. Ziggy and Zoomer were so happy to be here; they jetted around the field and were eager to make friends with everyone. Tre and Stella ran with Konig and as the boys chased after the tennis ball Stella was close on their heels trying to tackle them. Red and Rock went to the pond and Red enjoyed brief dunks in the cooling pond water whereas Rock was just fine going in up to his belly. Phoebe ran with Smokey and Buck and she enjoyed chasing Smokey all over the agility equipment and when Smokey had a tennis ball in his mouth she would jump around in front of him hoping to get a hold of it. Today was another perfect day and everyone had a great time.
Today was a pretty busy day. Scout had his first day of daycare today and at first he was a little intimidated by all the other dogs but once we went to the pond he let loose and had a blast having Tristan chase him around. Sammy was just thrilled to get to go fishing and enjoyed a brief swim in the pond. Meleny and Chelsea enjoyed chasing after each other and stealing the sticks that they would find and wave in the other’s face. Lucy, Rebel and Lilly went romping around the pond after each other and after a dip in the pond they enjoyed rolling around in the sand together. Sadie at first didn’t want to leave her mommy’s side but once she got outside and met Buster she was happy to have someone to chase her around the pond and up the sand hill. Today was reminiscent of past summer days and everyone enjoyed going for a dip in the refreshing pond water. Everyone really enjoyed this awesome fall day full of fun and sunshine. If only this weather was going to hang around for a while... We'll have to enjoy it while it lasts and make each moment count!
